Aegiq, a University of Sheffield spin-out developing networking technology that's secure in the quantum computing age, has closed a Seed funding round totalling almost £4 million ($4.9M USD) for its quantum photonics platform.
This latest investment round will allow Aegiq to accelerate the development of its platform and expand its R&D team, founded by a team comprising of CEO & Co-Founder, Dr. Max Sich, Chief Technology Officer, Dr Scott Dufferwiel, and Chief Financial Officer, Andrii Lamshanov.
Dr. Max Sich, Chief Executive at Aegiq, said:
"We are bringing our unique photonics technology to market, based on over 20 years of research, to unlock a whole new generation of applications, ranging from quantum computing to microscopy."
Aegiq's technology is based on high-performance single-photon sources and enables a range of new applications in quantum science, including quantum communications, quantum computing and quantum enhanced imaging and sensing.
In particular, Aegiq's technology is set to provide significant performance uplift for quantum communications and QKD applications, as well as opening doors for large-scale quantum networking with quantum computing and new quantum information processing protocols.
