Levitex, an investee company within the Deepbridge Life Sciences EIS portfolio, has recently been featured in a clinical study to explore the impact of a new mattress and topper solution on interface pressure and comfort during supine lying.
The method for this study was for patient-surface interface pressures to be calculated for three mattresses (A standard hospital mattress, a Levitex mattress and a dynamic air flow mattress, all with and without an innovative topper solution). Subjective comfort, contact surface area, peak and mean pressure and peak pressure index (head, sacrum, heels) were calculated for all mattress conditions for a 21-minute period.
With a total of 27 healthy volunteers that took part in the study, the Levitex mattress decreased peak pressure significantly compared with the hospital and air mattresses. The Levitex mattress also improved comfort and significantly lowered heel and head pressure compared with other surfaces.
The conclusion of this study was that the Levitex mattress used in this study offered a potentially improved pressure management solution for individuals, and implementation of the topper may also help to improve pressure management when used with existing standard or dynamic air flow mattresses.
